Sri Ramachandra Dental College,SRIHER marked World Oral Health Day with a series of impactful community-oriented initiatives under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.”
- Screening and treatment camp conducted in the rural area of Padalam, where approximately 120 patients received comprehensive oral health check-ups and necessary treatments
- Screening camp was conducted at a women’s shelter home in Vepery, where 30 residents received oral examination and guidance on maintaining oral hygiene.
- Outreach programme for women employees in Avadi, benefiting 94 participants. This session focused on educating working women about maintaining oral hygiene amidst busy lifestyles and highlighted the connection between oral health and systemic health.
- Oral health screening and diagnostic camp at Egmore railway station with the primary objective of early detection of potentially malignant oral disorders and oral cancer. A total of 250 patients were screened. 105 patients with clinically suspicious lesions were further evaluated using VELscope examination. Brush biopsy and advanced DNA ploidy analysis were carried out for evaluation of cellular abnormalities.
- EmpowHer Smile – Women’s Health Awareness Programme-The session on “Oral Health Myths Busted” attracted 60 participants, addressing common misconceptions and promoting evidence-based dental practices. Another lecture on “Caring for Women’s Health at Every Stage” saw 85 participants, focusing on the unique oral and general health needs of women across different life stages.
- Women’s wellness kits were distributed to the non-teaching faculty of the Dental College. These kits included essential items such as dates, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash.
- Samples were freely distributed amongst the camp patients and those visiting the Hospital throughout the month. This gesture highlighted the importance of integrating oral health into daily self-care practices. Around 1500 patients benefitted from this initiative.
- Informational pamphlets were distributed in both English and Tamil, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. These pamphlets emphasized the importance of maintaining oral health during different stages of life.
- A short film on the importance of oral health during pregnancy was screened for the public to create awareness about the connection between maternal oral health and overall well-being. The film highlighted common dental problems during pregnancy, the importance of regular dental check-ups, proper oral hygiene practices, and the impact of oral health on both mother and baby.
- Competitions were conducted for the dental college students highlighting the theme “ A Happy mouth is a Happy Life!”. Reel-O-Mania (reels competition), Smile Stories (Photography Contest) and The Dental Brain-game ( Crossword Challenge) were organized for the students and around 200 students enthusiastically participated in the same.
