NOHP Puducherry - Drawing competition conducted at Gypsy home

School visit

On April 4, 2026, a dedicated health awareness session was conducted for the residents of the Gypsy Girls Hostel, managed by The Indian Gypsy Works Fellowship Trust in Odiyampattu, Puducherry. Outreach programs like the one at the Gypsy Girls Hostel are vital because the Narikuravar (Gypsy) community is one of the most marginalized and underserved groups in Puducherry

The initiative aimed to bridge the gap in healthcare access for underserved communities through:

  • Oral Health Education: A group of approximately 20 young students participated in an interactive session focused on the fundamentals of dental hygiene. The program emphasized the importance of regular care in preventing systemic health issues.
  • Creative Expression: As shown in the image, the children actively participated by creating and displaying hand-drawn posters and health messages. This creative approach helped reinforce the lessons learned about healthy habits and "happy mouths."
  • Hygiene Guidance: The session provided practical tips on proper brushing techniques and the impact of diet on dental health, specifically tailored to be memorable for school-aged children.
  • Location Impact: Conducted on-site at the hostel premises in Villianur, the program ensured that the message of preventative care reached the children in a comfortable and familiar environment.
