World Oral Health Day 2026 – Nationwide Initiative

Dental check-ups

The Czech Dental Chamber (ČSK) prepared educational and awareness-raising activities for children and the general public at approximately 90 locations throughout the Czech Republic as part of World Oral Health Day 2026. The organisation of the events involved the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, the Czech Association of Dental Students, the Czech Dental Hygienists Association, the Prague 11 municipal district, regional dental chambers, and other institutions, including the Secondary Medical School and Secondary Vocational School Benešov and the Higher Vocational School for Dental Hygienists. The Czech Dental Hygienists Association involved approximately 80 dental hygienists. The initiative was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

Regional Dental Chamber Ostrava

Approximately 200 children, including 80 children from three children’s homes, received individual oral health education in Ostrava. The event took place on 22 March in the modern facilities of the City Campus of the University of Ostrava and involved more than 100 team members. The programme was also expanded to include a section for adults and senior citizens. The event was organised with the support of the University of Ostrava, the Institute of Health with a Smile, the Regional Dental Chamber Ostrava, and the Secondary Medical School and Higher Vocational School of Health Care Ostrava.

Regional Dental Chamber Plzeň

In cooperation with dental hygiene students from VOŠZMVS s.r.o. in Plzeň, the Regional Dental Chamber Plzeň organised a preventive event entitled Clean Teeth Don’t Hurt on Sunday, 29 March 2026. The event is unique in that parents attend together with their children during their free time. In the DEPO2015 premises, visitors learned in an entertaining way about all aspects of oral care – from interdental cleaning and healthy nutrition to tooth anatomy and first aid for dental injuries. More than 600 visitors attended this year’s event, and although it is intended for children up to 15 years of age, it attracted the greatest interest among families with preschool children.

Regional Dental Chamber Karviná

World Oral Health Day was also commemorated at a grammar school in Havířov, where members of the Regional Dental Chamber Karviná prepared an educational programme focused on dental hygiene for younger pupils. The event took the form of an accessible presentation supplemented by practical demonstrations introducing students to the principles of proper oral care. The programme placed particular emphasis on prevention and the development of good habits from an early age.

Czech Association of Dental Students

The Czech Association of Dental Students played a significant role in organising World Oral Health Day activities and, in cooperation with university faculties, prepared educational events throughout the country.

Two events took place in Olomouc – on 17 March at the Children’s Clinic of the University Hospital Olomouc (approximately 300–400 visitors) and on 26 March at the Fortress of Knowledge science centre (approximately 200 children). The programmes included demonstrations of proper toothbrushing techniques, work with dental models, and interactive educational stations.

The programme at the Fortress of Knowledge on 26 March focused primarily on children from nursery and primary schools. In addition to gaining new knowledge, approximately 200 children also received small gift packages containing dental care products.

At the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava, a programme for children from nursery and primary schools took place on 17 March. Several educational stations were prepared for approximately 180 participants. After completing the activities, children received reward packages containing dental care products. Sixteen students participated in organising the event.

In Brno, a preventive event was held on 21 March at Futurum Shopping Centre. The programme focused mainly on families with children and attracted approximately 100 visitors.

A similarly designed event took place on 19 March at Futurum Shopping Centre in Hradec Králové. The preventive information stand and accompanying programme attracted approximately 200 visitors, primarily families with children.

Several events were organised in Plzeň. On 18 March, the charitable event Donate a Smile combined prevention with charity activities. The programme included a charity run, a raffle, and various accompanying activities. Approximately 500 participants attended – some joined the run, while others came to support the initiative and learn more about oral health.

On 11 April, World Oral Health Day was commemorated at Plaza Plzeň shopping centre in cooperation with the IFMSA medical students’ association. The programme included activities for both children and adults and attracted approximately 200 visitors.

Czech Dental Hygienists Association

Members of the Czech Dental Hygienists Association carried out educational and motivational programmes in a wide variety of settings – from nursery and primary schools to community centres and senior homes – traditionally throughout the entire month of March. Activities took place at more than 80 locations and reached over 4,000 people in total.

The programmes were exclusively educational in nature and focused strongly on practical demonstrations and motivating participants to take a responsible approach to their own health. The programme also included open days at dental hygienists’ practices, where members of the public could take advantage of individual consultations focused on home oral care and receive recommendations tailored to their specific needs.

Project partners of World Oral Health Day also played an important role by helping to provide educational materials and small gifts for participants.

Smaller accompanying events also took place throughout Prague, where, as part of World Oral Health Day 2026, approximately 9,500 people in total were examined and educated in cooperation with participating institutions across the capital city.
