Week of the Dental Hygienist 2026 (Netherlands)

The Week of the Dental Hygienist 2026 takes place from 16 to 22 March 2026 and is a national awareness campaign organized to highlight the importance of preventive oral healthcare and the vital role dental hygienists play in keeping people healthy.

During this week, dental hygienists across the Netherlands actively engage with patients, parents, schools, and local communities to raise awareness about oral health and prevention. Practices share educational materials, organize activities, and use social media to increase the visibility of the profession and promote healthy habits.

Theme 2026: “Say No to Vaping = Yes to a Healthier Mouth.”

The 2026 campaign focuses on the growing use of vapes among children and young people, particularly those in primary school age groups. Research and healthcare professionals are increasingly concerned about the effects of vaping on oral health, including dry mouth, inflamed gums, and a higher risk of tooth decay.

With this theme, the campaign aims to:

  • Raise awareness among children and parents about the risks of vaping
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle choices at a young age
  • Support dental hygienists in discussing vaping and oral health in their practices and in schools

By working together during this week, dental hygienists contribute to greater awareness of prevention and help support the development of a healthier generation.
