Smile - it's your life! Exploring the oral health & mental health connection with Monash Health

To celebrate World Oral Health Day 2026, Monash Health Dental Services had display tables set up across our three major sites (Cranbourne, Dandenong and Springvale) where health promotion champions welcomed all patients and visitors on the day. 

Highlighting the theme “A Happy Mouth Is a Happy Life,” the table display showcased posters and newly developed resources that highlighted the connection between oral health and mental health. Healthy fresh fruit was available as visitors joined in with fun activities, including a game designed to build knowledge on ‘everyday’ and ‘sometimes’ foods with the champions

Over 411 patients visited Monash Clinics across the three sites, with 24 oral health education sessions delivered on the day that shared key messages on how to brush, floss daily, eat well and importance of visiting a dentist regularly. 

Oral health awareness was also a key component with an article was posted on the 20th March 2026 which focused on highlighting the importance of good oral hygiene and its linkage to mental health.
