GDCH, Mumbai: Empowering Teachers as Oral Health Champions – A Training Program on School Oral Health Promotion

Workshop

On 17 January 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai, conducted a high-impact Oral Health Awareness and Education Camp at Century Mill Chawl, Worli. This session was specifically designed for the educators of the community, furthering the World Oral Health Day 2026 mission: “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Life.”

  • Target Population

School teachers and educational influencers residing and working in the Century Mill Chawl community.

  • Number of Beneficiaries

86 educators were screened and trained to become oral health advocates.

Objectives

  • Capacity Building: Transform school teachers into "Oral Health Promoters" who can identify early dental issues in their classrooms.
  • Skill Development: Training the teachers in demonstrating and supervising the correct tooth-brushing techniques for their students.
  • Nutritional Advocacy: To provide teachers with the tools to guide students toward tooth-friendly dietary choices.
  • Clinical Wellness: Provide the teachers themselves with a comprehensive screening to ensure they lead by example with healthy smiles.
